This morning was the beginning of the marathon here. Gerard was brave and went out to get some photos. Some have started. And the next shot is the group of people waiting to start the race.

I'm watching the ducks out the back patio. A mother duck with 6 of her ducklings were here. They're so cute as they're very small yet.
While I'm watching, this ugly bird comes along and the mother duck hisses and chases it off. The babies were all gathered in a circle near her.

So now it bothers me that this bird is going to get one of the ducklings, so I keep counting the ducklings all morning every time I see them. Ugh, it weighs on me. I see another mother duck with only 2 babies with her and I think something got the others. I'm sure there were more than 2.
I tore myself away and we went off to Arrowtown (just around the corner). Quite a quaint little town which was originally a gold-mining town. The main street is quite nice with lots of shops, restaurants and a museum.

We visited the Chinese Settlement where some men from China came to make their fortunes, but of course were isolated in these type of hovels.

It was a bit early for lunch, so we thought we would do a bit of a hike. It was only an hour along Bush Creek, and quite pleasant.

This guy along the path was nice too.

We then went to the Fork & Tap for lunch on the patio. It turned out to be a beautiful day, especially in the sun.
While there, we planned a little wine tour of our own. Just 3 wineries close to the area. We set off to do that. We visited the Peregrine Winery and the Brennan Winery. Of course we bought some wine because we felt we should, even though we didn't have to. All pinot noir tastings as that's what this area has become famous for.
Peregrine

Brennan - the grapes are just beginning their growing season.

On the way back we were going to stop at the Chard Farms Winery, but somehow missed it. We had stopped at the bungy jumping place to get some photos. I couldn't be tempted. Zip-lining is one thing, bungy jumping? I don't know. Here she goes - on the platform, then she made the leap. It's over a river.

So we didn't bother with the 3rd winery and went back to our place. Of course, I looked immediately for the mother duck and her ducklings. They were there, but there were only 5! OMG, already? :( She doesn't seem to be upset about it as she's carrying on like normal. Poor thing.
We sat out on the patio for a while. The male duck came up to me, stared for a bit, then sat down and closed his eyes, no more than 2 feet away. He stayed there quite a while.
We're off in the morning bright and early, so it's an early night tonight.
A couple shots around our place.

And this is our unit on the end.

Well Duck Whisperer, I know what you mean. In Florida a Mother Duck chose to have her babies right by the pond with the alligator in it! Every day I was counting the ducklings. Eventually she seemed to realize that they all should move on. Whew, what a relief. Bungee jumping isn't for me either but zip lining is awesome. Enjoy that wine!
